POETRY

I was told I wasn’t smart enough for poetry.

But poetry is ever present in our world, not just in literature or music, but in the very rhythm of life. In essence, poetry really is for everyone.

I find that to be a fine and marvelous truth.

MOTHER LOVER

Birthed me, killed me, birthed me again,
Mother love, Mother love.

Praised, judged,
Raised, stunted,
Mother love, Mother love.

You told me today that you never wanted me,
That my coming stopped your going.
You would have left the husband, but you couldn’t leave the child.

I wish you had.
With the birth of me came the death of you.
How could we not become enemies?

You tried not to hate me, tried to go on.
Brave
Resolute

But it was too late.
You buried your heart, you buried yourself, you buried us both.
My birth, your death, your death, my death, my death, your birth of vengeance.

I was born loving you, given as a gift,
One day you’ll love me, too, even if you’re gone.
It’s our curse, yours and mine,

We can’t stop them, love and hate,
So I’ll slay the past and remake memories for two;
Write again the history we never knew.

Now you see?
Now I feel
Mother love, Mother love.
